To recap: I work at a place "where quality comes first".

So here I am, the loyal scanmonkey, when a lady comes through my line with a kid in an infant carrier in her cart. First thing I do is look under it to make sure there aren't any other groceries under the infant carrier (there weren't any.) We make idle chatter while I scan her groceries. Finally, we're all done, and the following conversation comes up.

Queen Moo: Why didn't you tell me how cute and precious my little boy is?
Me: Ma'am, I--
Queen Moo: All the other cashiers do! You're the first that hasn't!
Me: Ma'am?
Queen Moo: You don't DESERVE to work here! I'LL HAVE YOUR JOB! *storms to the front end manager*

An hour later, my manager tells me what happens. She heard the whole thing, and had filled out a writeup slip. As soon as the woman left, she tore it up. So I'm not getting in trouble.

Right?

WRONG.

A couple days later (today), I get called into the manager's office. It seems the moo called up corporate and demanded I be fired. Corporate sent down a suspension. Now unfortunately, my manager can't let me go unpunished but I only got a written warning. At least I'm not suspended.

In any case, it's not my job to fawn all over an infant. I just don't do that sort of thing.
